These dogs have been used as sires. Riana Glide Glide is a versatile dog working cattle (and previously deer) for his owner David Hart, ‘Oakwood’, Gympie, who describes him : ‘Glide has a clever natural common sense cast, a calm strong presence on stock and true heading ability. He can vary his work rate to easily lift stock, and then gently guide them. Glide is proving himself a sire of useful, versatile dogs. David is very pleased with a son of Glide’s, Tracker The Chief, who has proved himself a good sire. Glide’s litter to Karra. Gift in 2007 was outstanding, and the mating was repeated in 2008 with more very nice pups including K. Glen, K.Win, K.Tilly, K.Gem and K.Gleam. K.Lily was the only pup resulting from the next mating. Gift had been injured weaner breaking and her final litter to Glide was delivered by CS; Gemma, K.Gift and Glow survived.Tilly, Lily and Gemma have been retained in the stud.

Glide with Tracker Sooki providing some back up. Riana Finch A3M 14619 05 AJH A very good dog in the Riana mould; I saw his mother work as a young bitch and was most impressed. I bought Finch as a sire in December 2008 from Jason Wright. It’s not often a proven sire becomes available, and I consider myself very lucky to have him. He has a great nature and is extremely loyal. Finch is proving a dominant sire, stamping his class on his pups from any bitch he has served. Stewart Oates of Jimargil, Menindee is finding his FinchXSpice dog Karmala Rook a clever mustering dog who searches for stock. He recently mustered 15,000 ac with him and was amazed at his work. A litter by Finch from Paddy’s Elkie have started very well at 5 mths. Chris Rickert mated Finch to his bitch Whitehead’s Bell II who has very famous g.g.grandsires, Riana Ace and Capree BlueII. The three pups have started very well, bottom pic. Arthur Crumblin has seven pups by Finch from a sister to Bell, W. Bindi, and tried them on big mobs recently at 6 mths. He’s very pleased with all of them, saying they kept outside their sheep and worked nicely; some mobs were up to 800!

Three very nice pups by Finch from Whitehead's Bell the morning they first saw sheep. Their owner Chris Rickert has given them time to mature and they started calmly and with purpose. I particularly liked the bottom pup, Digger, who showed a lot of class and concentration. WHITEHEAD’S TRACKER WKC reg. 47451 DOB 20/1/06 Sire: Tubbo Boomer Tracker is a very versatile red/tan dog with a calm, sensible nature who is owned by Arthur Crumblin. He has done a power of work for Arthur mustering the difficult Traprock country, and has also worked cattle and competed successfully in arena and utility trials.
Glendon Wally X Whitehead's Tracker competing at Toowoomba Trials MIGALOO MAVERICK WKC reg. A3M 15173-07 Karmala Spike XTracker Amber(Riana GlideXKarrawarra Ruby Tuesday) Maverick is a very good dog by Karmala Spike working for Brad Cavanagh, who describes him below: “Maverick is a dog at his best when handling large mobs of stock which are nervous and attempting to break, both cattle and sheep; in this situation his awareness of giving the stock space, allowing him to cover and contain any possible breaking stock, is amazing to watch. This makes him an awesome lead dog on cattle which continually want to run. Very similar to what I saw of Spike at Collymongle in 2007/2008. His awareness of the flight zone of livestock is exceptional. He can also be forceful when required without biting. I also have good control over Mav and can move him around the mob to where I need him when necessary, this is not always that easy with such an instinctive dog.”After the early death of Spike and the recent death of his good son K. Swags, I mated two young bitches to Maverick. Lily(R.GlideXKarra.Gift) has whelped 6 pups, May 11, 4 bitches and 2 cream dogs. It’s interesting how many creams have popped up. Although there are no creams for many generations in these litters, Karrawarra had many creams in the foundation dogs and Riana had Karrawarra TammyII as a foundation bitch.
Brad Cavanagh with Karmala Win and her Maverick litter, May 2011, and Migaloo Maverick ready for work.
Karmala Spike, June 2007. BARRU MERLIN Merlin is an impressive dog with the runs on the board, his progeny have proven him a dominant sire over varied bitches. A strong dog on cattle and experienced in trials, Merlin also enjoys arena trials on three sheep and has done well in both.
Barru Merlin(Barru BingXBuckaroo Maisie) a proven sire and a consistent performer in Cattle and Arena Sheep Trials. Tracker The Chief Riana Glide X Pud’s Sookie The Chief is a young dog bred by David Hart by Riana Glide from his bitch Pud’s Sookie who was by Richard Puddicombe’s great old dog Pud’s Signature. This is how David described her shortly after she died: Sookie wasn’t too much of anything other than straight common sense. On cattle she would cast to where she had to be with minimum effort, whether that was 50 meters on a flat or 3 kms through a gorge, but she would get there and control stock. Chief has a much nicer more classic “Riana” style cast and is not at all short. Chief has nice walk up strength and is a calm dog. when he was only a year old I watched him get a huge lantana wrapped bull out of a creek bed and was most impressed. As he’s matured Chief has developed into a very clever dog with excellent stock sense. He’s breeding on well and has left good pups from Riana Delta Dawn, Capree Lara and Karrawarra Ruby. Sean Barrett recently described The Chief as one of the best dogs he’s seen. Sean has helped David muster cattle on Oakwood and has seen him working in almost inaccessible country.
Tracker 'The Chief'(Riana GlideXPud's Sooki) has a win.
Litter brothers(Tracker the ChiefXKarrawarra Ruby Tuesday) aged 15 months, Tracker Gibbs(right) and Tracker Storm. While Gibbs is Mr Cool, using mininum energy to do the job, Storm is typical of the Karrwarra dogs, stylish and intense.
Gibbs and Storm working weaners. Outstanding young dogs, both very effective workers. Karmala Clyde A nice dog with beautiful footwork and lateral movement. Has the natural distance off his stock that is typical of Riana bred dogs. One of his daughters, Karmala Qing(Pride)XRiana QuillII, is with Stewart Oates at Menindee, pic. below. Another bitch from that litter, Karmala Quizz, is at Karrawarra and produced a nice litter to Paddy’s Shadow including Karra. Quince, now at Karmala. Clyde has proven a useful sire and has been used by Peter Austin(Kirkaldy), Pat Murphy(Karrawarra) and Bill Scott(Stockman’s). Peter has a nice cream dog by him from Karrwarra Nessie and Bill Scott is pleased with a nice blue dog by Clyde called Stockman’s Steel. No doubt he will also be used as a sire by the Whitemans.
Karmala Clyde
Karmala Qing(Pride) out at Menindee. A strong bitch.
Karmala Clyde and his daughter out of Riana Quill, K. Qing(aka Pride). Riana Cap Cap is a nice dog in the Riana tradition and has been used there in the stud. Bred from generations of tough workers that have needed to use their initiative to do the job, Cap is a classy, light running type. Spice had a litter of 9 to Cap in 2004 which included Karmala Akubra and Karmala Spike.
Riana Cap PADDY’S SHADOW (Karrawarra Boogs X Paddy’s Loo) Shadow has been used extensively as a sire at Karrawarra and has left some very good bitches. Karrawarra Sybil III appears three times as a g. g. dam in his pedigree.
Paddy's Shadow as a young dog in 2002.
Paddy's Shadow(Karrawarra BoogsXPaddy's Loo) in 2010. Karmala Akubra A3M 13071 04 JK ‘Kuba’ is a beautiful Kelpie type with a great temperament. Has that extra bit of class that stamps him with sire potential, according to Arthur Hazlett of Riana. He has nice distance off his stock and is calm and willing to please. Spent some months at Milburn Creek in 2007 where he did some real work, helping muster difficult hill country. Akubra has been used at Karrawarra and Karrwarra Coster has been retained. Coster has been used a sire at Karrawarra and has left some very promising progeny, Pat Murphy and Tony Parsons consider him an outstanding young dog and progeny have been exported. Riana Delta Dawn has had a litter to Akubra with good results workwise, but unfortunately half the litter had longer coats. Breeding Kelpies from old bloodlines is full of surprises due to the collie origins. Peggysue had her first litter of 7 dog pups to Kuba, lovely calm, sensible pups. Josh Behn now has pups by his purchase, K.Monte, and Simon Hartwich mated his K.Gem(Riana GlidexKarra.Gift) to K.Rebel from Peg’s litter. Two promising big pups came to grief from the same litter.

Young Karrawarra Gift TRACKER GIBBS WKC reg. DOB 8/03/10 Sire: Tracker The Chief Gibbs is a young dog bred by David Hart, and would be the most impressive young kelpie I have seen for some time. He is physically a near perfect type and has a lovely calm way of working his stock, doing only what is necessary with plenty of strength and brains. The photos below speak for themselves.
Meson Stig Stig is a very nice young dog belonging to Karl Hinshelwood. According to Karl he is a classy worker with nice distance and plenty of strength. I am hoping to establish a second family based on these lines and using Tianne Hussey(Wooton EJ SamXGorham’s Gemma). K. Speed(StigxFinesse) has been retained and has started well for Matt Bignell.
Karmala Glen Karmala Glen is one of the best young dogs I have bred to date. He has a beautiful temperament and is a lovely dog to have around, very loyal without being all over you. Glen can turn on enough power to shift anything, then drop back to calm control of his stock like his sire Riana Glide. Karmala Peggy Sue(GlenXDelta) has been retained in the stud, the remainder of that litter are working well. Below is a pic of K.Lyndy(GlenXLyddy) who is owned by Lisha Bennett, they are at Longreach Ag. College where Lyndy and Lisha were recently filmed by a German TV crew!

Karmala Lyndy and Lisha Bennett at Longreach Ag. College. Driftwood Clyde I was fortunate to get a litter from Spice by Clyde. He was 12 years old and has since been put down with a tumour. A lovely old dog who retained a lot of old blood close up, ie Kanimbla Darby 24% and Karrawarra Tammy 22%.Regarded as a ‘special’ dog at Riana; his genetic legacy is invaluable.
