Benalee Chance deceased
WKC reg. A3M23903-13 DOB 26/4/2013
Karmala Clyde x Karmala Lyndy
Chance was bred by Lisha Bennett, who bought his dam, Lyndy, from me when she was a student at Longreach Ag. College and needed a pup to train as part of her course there. Lyndy was dux of the course that year, and progressed to be a very handy bitch for Lisha as she worked as a jillaroo in the New England and later on Landsdowne Station near Barcaldine,Q. When asked by Lisha what dog I thought she should mate Lyndy to last year, I remembered Karmala Clyde was working at Mt. Margaret, Quilpie, for Peter Whiteman and suggested she try him.
Peter died tragically not long after Lisha’s visit, and the mating will always remind me of him, and what a great mentor he was for so many young men.
Chance has proved a brave and positive character; after barely surviving an attempt to strangle himself (wrapping carpet thread from his bedding around his throat) he slowly recovered…. but is quite blind. He seems to have a mental map of his surroundings and rarely bumps into anything, he plays in the run with the other dogs at full speed, and works sheep by sound.
Before the disaster Chance started working with style and strength, showing more promise than his sire at the same age, and I decided he was worth a mating. He left a very nice litter to K.Lily with interesting homoz. numbers of 3.1% to Driftwood Clyde, Karrawarra Gift IV and Riana Glide.
A mating to K.Brandy produced two very nice bitch pups and a litter of six in a second mating to her. Chance was also mated to Karmala Gemma before flying down to Josh Lines, Crystalea Kelpie stud, S.A. Josh was keen to give him a go as a sire and has bred a couple of big litters, all keen workers.
Chance proved himself a sire of very handy dogs and his progeny here are strong and classy; they also seem to inherit his nice leggy build and are tough like him.
