AUGUST 2025
(We have a nice trained bitch for sale, details on Pups for Sale page)
Only four hours south of Nobby today, at Guyra, they’re actually skiing on the golf course!! I wouldn’t be surprised if it snows here too. Very, very chilly… not that the dogs seem to care. We’ve had good rain through July and the cattle are enjoying eating off the cereal crops sown for that purpose. This is an appropriate start to the blog! Click on the 1 below. Despite the AC warming the house, I still love to get my toes warmed here!
So the cycle starts again. The last litters all safely and happily placed in their new homes and the bitches ready for mating once more. The cycle of life!
Karrawarra Kelp, Eventine Ralph and Karmala CloverII keeping an eye on the sheep.
So far Black Jack has been mated to Vamp, Ralph to Mina, Jack to Clover and Minmin to Riana Gundee. It’s a bit tricky when you have no idea how many pups they might have, deciding if I should try Speedy and whether Kelp will come on heat as she’s getting on. Tilly, Jakeeva Sage, made up her own mind and decided against maternity for the second time. She’s a bit touchy and went right off when an electric shaver came out at the vet’s last heat, so she can go to work and that will likely change her mind! Trying to keep two families going to retain lines for future matings can mean more joinings. It was a thrill being able to use Gundee, now with Anntre Kelpies, Riana is one of the very few studs you can be confident you won’t get any undesirable traits from. They’ve done an amazing job over the years with very few outcrosses, a real example of line breeding being quite OK if you don’t have faults you could possibly exacerbate by doing so. Photos below.
I’ve had a busy time on the road doing a dog swap with Derek at Nanango, a trip to Texas to pick up Min and then taking her up to Moore. I enjoyed the drive up and it was great to see Annette and Trevor’s set up, he has his own power ‘plant’ and it’s a great site, looking down on the horse paddocks and stable etc., below…but it was very wet coming home. It’s been a bit hectic with Siggy being super excited and checking out all the girls, barking non stop when he thinks they’re a bit likely! He gets a bit ahead of himself at times. I took him in to stay with Michelle for a week for a rest and he slept all afternoon! She took her ‘girls’ to the Jumpers and Jazz festival in Warwick where they competed in the dachshund races and starred in their crocheted outfits.
On the way up to Nanango, Bunya pines and pencil pines.
Down near Texas, the Border Ranges
Riana Mazz(Riana Jazz xRiana Tazz II) and Riana Gundee(Riana Coach x Riana Toss)both showing typical Riana type. Below are photos of Riana Glide about 15 years ago. Remarkably consistent breeding. Glide is in the breeding of many Karmala dogs and I have tried to keep a Riana based family. The other family owes much to my earliest dogs, Woorivale Spice(out of Karra. RipIII’s litter sister), her daughter Brandy(by Glendon Benny) and Brandy’s son Wills(by Larking’s Wilson, a 100% Scanlon blood dog).
The pups remaining from the last litters are K.Shim(Snooker x Libby) and K.Tickle(Snooker x Ginny). I also have a couple of boys who will be heading off later, Stake and Snick. All are getting a bit of basic education and Shim and Snick had a quick look at sheep last week and impressed.
Tickle from the Snooker x Ginny litter is a bit of a favourite; she has so much energy she can’t help bouncing around, but knows she only gets treats and attention if she sits. I can be busy gardening or whatever and she’ll come and plonk herself right in front of me and sit quietly until I give her some time. Smart pup and a bit more sensitive than most, not in a bad way, just more thoughtful perhaps.

K. Tookey has gone up to Emma and Derek with Holdem and Margie to learn about horses as Derek is doing a lot of stock work on horseback.
Margie and Tookey(Barney x Gossip)
Shim is a delight, she’s the one who had the big abcess on her head. Now fully recovered thanks to generous plasterings of Aloe Vera from the garden and Infection Fighter(a herbal AB).
I was really disappointed to discover Digby is infertile, but Lynnton luckily went to buy hay from a friend who has pups from both of us and was very impressed to see his three dogs quietly holding weaners onto hay without any direction/correction. They were Tynndyl Herb, Tynndyl Titty and Karmala MataHari/Chilli(Wills xMidnight) who is a litter sister to McKenzie and MinaWylie. Brad is really happy with his team, all slightly different but working well together. Herb is by Digby out of Lynnton’s lovely stylish Jarrah, so I’m aiming to try a bitch to him soon.
Winter usually gives some great sunrises and sunsets, this one has excelled!
