Lots of clouds this month but no rain to speak of. The winter cereal crops are hanging in there but most went in too late be fed off yet. I had a few mice turn up after the first frosts but none since, unusual for winter and unusually few frosts so far. I remember one July when we had a white frost every morning.

The dogs are all in great shape and looking super shiny with the extra mince I feed in the cold weather. Five of the bitches have been on heat and four were mated, Vamp by TCI to O’Bree’s Gilee, Mina and Naka to Barru Spinifex/Don, and Clover was TCI’d to Wills. The Cash x Karma litter is 12 weeks old and only three remain here, two will be leaving for their new homes shortly, this is BrooklynTerrace Windfall(Karrawarra Cash x Karmala Karma) my wages for rearing the litter!

The Gossip litter by Holdem has just moved out of the cosy hay shed into the pup runs vacated by Karma’s mob at 8 weeks…a bit later getting bones in their diet because I wait until they’re on grass, otherwise they eat a lot of hay/straw! These are the pups, girls top, boys below. Still a couple of boys to place.

This has been a time of assessment for the stud. After Em’s accident I had most of the dogs back here, only four stayed with Derek and it’s been unfeasible to send pups north for cattle work while he’s so busy. Gradually decisions have been made to move some on to new homes where they’ll get more work  or retire. Jack has swapped spots with Naka and gone north. Evonne and Sean Barrett have been very kind and taken Holdem and Margie (GinCruiser x Nakara), two youngsters we thought were keepers.  Luckily they think so too, their work has impressed! Our three best bitches have been mated and hopefully will give us some nice pups to run on in the future.

My nice big Rydal Mace, 9 mths, is now old enough to head off to work. He’s not classy enough to keep as a sire but has the best nature and works sheep well after some time away with Greg Kings. I’m sure he’d enjoy cattle work, he has heaps of confidence. Mace 7m <click for video.
